How to get an Apple Watch SE 3 for $0 through your life insurance
The Vitality Apple Watch benefit, explained by a BC broker: what you pay, what you have to do each month, and the catches.
The deal in one paragraph
With Manulife Vitality Plus you order an Apple Watch through the Vitality app, pay nothing up front for the SE 3, and then clear it over 24 months by earning 500 Vitality points each month. Hit the target and that month costs you nothing. Fall short and you pay part of that month's instalment; it is a sliding scale, not a penalty. After 24 months the watch is yours.
Which watch, what it costs
| Model | Up front | Monthly | With 500 pts/month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Watch SE 3 | $0 | $0 | Free |
| Apple Watch Series 11 | $220 | $13.70 × 24 | Monthly instalment waived |
| Apple Watch Ultra 3 | $770 | $13.70 × 24 | Monthly instalment waived |
The SE 3 is the one most of my clients take: it does everything Vitality needs and costs nothing if you stay active.
What earns the 500 points
Physical activity points come from your watch automatically: steps, workouts with elevated heart rate, and active calories. Five hundred points a month works out to roughly 15 to 20 points a day, which for most people is a brisk 30-minute walk or a gym session most days. You can see your running total in the app, so there are no surprises at month end. I walk every new client through the exact daily targets for their device on our first call.
The catches
- Plus only. The Apple Watch benefit is part of Vitality Plus, the paid add-on, not the free Vitality Go.
- Phone requirement. You need an iPhone 11 or newer running iOS 26 or later. Android users can still earn points with a Fitbit, Garmin, Oura Ring or WHOOP instead.
- It is a 24-month commitment. If you stop being active, the monthly instalments are charged. Only take the watch if you intend to use it.
- Points on the watch count toward your status too. The same activity that pays for the watch pushes you toward Gold or Platinum and the premium discount, so the two benefits compound.

Vitality syncs with Apple Watch, Fitbit, Garmin, Oura Ring 4 and WHOOP. Plus members get complimentary WHOOP device access and free Garmin or Fitbit devices on some offers; Go members get discounts. You do not need the Apple Watch to reach Platinum.
Is it really free?
The watch itself is, if you hit the target every month. What you are paying for is the Vitality Plus fee on your policy, which also buys you the premium discount and the other rewards. Whether that fee is worth it depends on how active you are; I lay out the math in Is Manulife Vitality worth it?
